João Santos Pereira is an Associate Professor of Biostatistics at Católica Medical School, where he also serves as Executive Director. In this role, he sits on the Board of Directors, Scientific Council, and Pedagogical Council, and is responsible for the financial and operational management of the School, as well as coordinating its internationalization strategy.
In parallel, he coordinates and teaches several courses in the areas of biostatistics, epidemiology, and artificial intelligence applied to medicine. He also founded the Biostatistics Laboratory at Católica Medical School, which focuses on training and providing statistical services in academic settings and in collaboration with industry. Previously, he served as Innovation Coordinator at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Chief Financial Officer and Board Member at HeartGenetics, and as a parliamentary advisor for education and science at the Portuguese Parliament (Assembleia da República).
His career also includes entrepreneurial experience, with multiple capital raises and one exit, as well as management of technology and biomedical-based companies. He holds a PhD in Brain Imaging from the University of Cambridge and a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico. Among his publications are the co-authored books 20 Erros que Custaram Mil Milhões de Euros (2013), on entrepreneurship, and Building Creative Machines (2025), on generative artificial intelligence.
